The Enza mobility scooter uses a 60V lead-acid battery system. Lead-acid batteries need regular care, especially when the scooter is not being used for a long period of time. If they are left sitting without being charged, they can discharge quickly and may eventually reach a point where they cannot be revived.
This is especially important with Enza because the unit has multiple 12V converters that can create a partial battery drain if the scooter is not fully switched off. Even when the main switch is turned off, some connection to the battery may still remain, which can slowly drain the pack over time.
Charge the Battery Every Week
If the scooter is being stored but still connected to the unit, fully charge the battery at least once per week. This helps prevent the battery from becoming over-discharged.
When charging, make sure the charger is actually working. Sometimes the charger may be plugged into the scooter but not charging properly.
Use the charger light indicators as a guide:
- Solid green light: Battery is fully charged.
- Solid red or blinking red light: Battery is charging.
- Flashing red and green light: There may be a charging fault. The charger may need to be restarted or checked.
Do not assume the battery is charging just because the charger is plugged in.
If Storing for Two Weeks
If you will not be using the Enza for around two weeks:
- Fully charge the battery.
- Turn the main switch off.
- Store the scooter in a safe, dry place.
Turning off the main switch helps reduce battery drain, but it may not completely eliminate it.
If Storing for Several Months
If the scooter will not be used for several months, such as during winter storage, the safest option is to fully disconnect the batteries from the scooter.
Before disconnecting anything:
- Fully charge the battery pack.
- Take a clear picture of how the battery wires are connected.
- Disconnect the wires from the battery terminals.
- Store the batteries indoors at room temperature.
The batteries are heavy, but Enza batteries usually include straps to make removal easier.
If you are not comfortable disconnecting batteries, contact a technician or support team before attempting it. Battery terminals must be handled carefully to avoid short circuits or incorrect reconnection.
Storage Temperature Matters
Never allow lead-acid batteries to freeze. Freezing can permanently damage the battery and reduce or destroy its ability to hold a charge.
Store the batteries in a room-temperature environment whenever possible, especially during winter.
Applies to Other Lead-Acid Models Too
The same care instructions apply to other products that use lead-acid batteries, including Streetster models. If the unit will not be used for an extended time, fully charge the batteries, document the wiring, disconnect them, and store them in a room-temperature location.
Proper charging and storage are the best ways to extend the life of SLA lead-acid batteries and avoid permanent battery damage.
